Beautiful
structures of great historical and ecological value open their doors to tourists, offering them the opportunity to go back
in time and learn about famous figures of Ecuadorian colonial life. Tourists can visit haciendas in the Andes that are located
on the skirts of different volcanoes, surrounding majestic Cotopaxi; haciendas that bear witness to the Incan wisdom and close
to ancient cultures; and haciendas that grow banana or cacao, this last one the raw material of the finest chocolate in Europe.
Each hacienda has its own magic, its own ecosystem, and unique traditions. Horseback riding, hill walking, walking, rappelling,
bird watching, cultural experiences such as rodeo, and learning about the fruit extraction process are just some of the wide
range of activities that each place has to offer.
The Ecuadorian Tourism Haciendas Association is working jointly with the World Tourism Organization’s Professional Volunteers’ Program (Tedqual Volunteers) to implement a concept of efficient tourism management, involving the private, public sectors, and civil society, above all indigenous communities. The member haciendas of this organization are: Antisana, Bomboli, Castalia, Cusín, Chillo Jijón, Chorlaví, Guachalá, La Alegría, La Andaluza, La Carriona, La Ciénega, Hato Verde, Hualilahua, Hacienda Zuleta, Haciendas Tierra del Volcán, Zuleta, Yanahurco, Manteles, San Agustín de Callo, Pinsaquí, Tambopaxi, Termas de Papallacta, La Herrería, La Compañía, and Molino San Juan.Jambelí, Las Cañas, and El Castillo haciendas on the coast and others in the Southern Andes have future plans to join this interesting initiative, which promotes tourism and the development of the neighboring communities in these delightful destinations. DAY 1 Arrive
in Quito. If time allows, city tour in the afternoon. Overnight in Quito, hotel

2 Drive towards the north, lunch at Hacienda La Compania, a
hundred-year old country house with perfectly preserved architecture and totally dedicated to growing roses for export. Continue to Otavalo, visit its market. Overnight in Hacienda Cusin (www.haciendacusin.com), a restored 17th-century Andean villa at 2600m / 8500 feet. In 1602 a Spanish family Luna purchased the Hacienda at an auction organized by the king Philip
II of Spain. ![]() ![]() DAY 3 Visit Peguche waterfall and Cotacachi leather market. Overnight in Hacienda Pinsaqui
(www.haciendapinsaqui.com), constructed in 1790 it was originally a colonial textile enterprise
and its products received international recognition. General Simon Bolivar, the revered liberator of Ecuador, was one of its guests. ![]() ![]() DAY 4 Drive to Hacienda Zuleta, horse riding, visit the reserve of the condors and the
Zuleta community. Zuleta has Pre-Colombian, Spanish and Ecuadorian traditions within
four centuries of history. The original inhabitants of Zuleta region were the Caranquis,
an agrarian-based culture whose background dates to 800 A.C. Overnight in Hacienda Zuleta (www.zuleta.com). ![]() ![]() DAY 5 Drive to Hacienda Guachala. It is one of the oldest estates of Ecuador
with constructions dating back to 1580 and its history, closely related to the conquest of
the Spaniards since 1534. Visit Pucara de Quitoloma archaeological site. Overnight in Guachala
(www.guachala.com). ![]() ![]() DAY 6 Drive Guachala - Papallacta
hot springs. Afternoon enjoy the best hot springs of Ecuador at Termas de Papallacta ![]() ![]() DAY 7 One-day hike in the "paramo" of Papallacta
with possibilities to fish trout in its various lagoons. Return to Termas de Papallacta. ![]() DAY 8 Drive to Hacienda Itulcachi, visit
the Hacienda and continue to Pasochoa Wildlife Refuge. Walk in the Andean forest. Overnight in Hacienda La Carriona (www.lacarriona.com) - a "monument" to Ecuador's colonial
history, constructed more than 200 years ago in the late 18th Century. ![]() ![]() DAY 9 Visit to Hacienda Las Herrerías, a mixture of colonial and religious
architectural concepts of the 1700s. The "Herreria" foundry made and provided the weapons used by the patriots in the Quito uprising of 1809, which
marked the beginning of the independence movement. Visit to Hacienda Chillo Jijon, built around 1730. For over 120 years, until 1975, the hacienda was also home to one of the
largest textile mills in the Andes. Lunch in La Matilde Restaurant. Continue to the Cotopaxi National Park. Overnight in Tambopaxi (www.tambopaxi.com), this ecotourism complex is situated in the Cotopaxi National Park
at 12303 ft. / 3750m and is designed as recreational and acclimatization centre. ![]() ![]() DAY 10 Visit Jose Ribas Refuge of Cotopaxi. Drive to Hacienda San Agustin del Callo (www.incahacienda.com), built on the original Inca fortress. Since the
15th century the Hacienda has served as Augustinian Convent and later as temporary home for
the members of the French Geodesic Mission, who determined de true shape of the planet. Overnight in the Hacienda. ![]() ![]() DAY 11 Visit the Zumbahua Indian village and its market (Saturdays) and the Quilotoa lagoon. Overnight in Hosteria La Cienega (www.hosterialacienega.com). The place was bought in 1695 and since that time La Cienega hosted
a number of important historical events on national and international level. Sir Alexander
Von Humboldt was one of its guests. ![]() ![]() DAY 12 Drive from La Cienega
towards Patate. On the way, visit Hosteria Rumipamba de las Rosas. Situated close to the
Cotopaxi volcano, it is a strategic point to visit Indigenous markets, fairs and several
volcanic lakes. Overnight in Hacienda Leito (www.haciendaleito.com); the place was the main residence of Jesuits of San Ignacio religious order, when America was
part of the Spanish colony with Charles III as King. The Hacienda is situated close to the
Llanganates - an enigmatic place where it is believed that the major treasure of the Incas was hidden. ![]() ![]() DAY 13 Drive to subtropical town of Baños, situated at the entrance to the Amazon
basin. Visit the Route of the Waterfalls. Overnight in Baños, Hotel Luna Runtun (www.lunaruntun.com) or Samari Spa (www.samarispa.com). ![]() ![]() DAY 14 In
the morning relax in Baños and enjoy its charming atmosphere. Afternoon return to
Quito. DAY 15 Depart home.
